Monitoring and Evaluation Department

Functional Responsibilities  

  • Monitor, periodically, the implementation of health policies, the utilisation of health resources, and the attainment of targets for coverage, utilisation of services and health status
  • Co-ordinate the publication of documents relating to Ghana Health Service activities (annual reports and other periodic reports) and ensure that the activities are properly documented and relevant information is disseminated

The Department will also have the following Sections to assist in the discharge of its functions  

a. Monitoring and Evaluation Section   This Section will undertake the independent monitoring and evaluation of all GHS service delivery programs and other related programs that are antecedent to the achievement of the GHS mandate. In this regard, it will collaborate with donor agencies and other sectors to monitor and evaluate programs that are initiated and implemented by staff of the service.  

b. Centre for Health Information Management

Deputy Director

Anthony Ofosu, a public health physician from Ghana with interest in delivering health care to remote rural communities, and using information communication technology to address service bottlenecks.
He attended the University of Ghana Medical School and University of Ghana School of Public Health, where he obtained his medical degree and Masters in Public Health degree respectively. He was a Population and Leadership Fellow at the University of Washington Seattle from 2001-2002.
He holds a Masters degree in Epidemiology from the London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. He is a fellow of the Ghana College of Physicians. He has coauthored and published peer reviewed articles on utilization of health care by rural communities and the brain drain of physicians from West Africa among others.
He has worked as a district doctor working in a district Hospital and he has also worked as a District Director of Health Services in two rural districts in the Brong Ahafo Region in Ghana.  
He is currently the Deputy Director in charge of Monitoring and Evaluation in the Ghana Health Service.
