Research

The Research Department is responsible for the research activities of the Division including design of research protocols; data collection processing and analysis; and report writing. Systematic review of existing literature and presentation of position papers is another core activity of this department. This Department is also responsible for capacity development and strengthening at all levels of the health sector by ensuring that the research training needs of directorates, regions and districts of the GHS are crucial on the Department’s agenda.

The Research department has a well established data management unit which processes all data from studies carried out by the Division as well as data from other partners.  The processing of data comprises designing of data entry screens, data entries, data cleaning and analysis.  The data managers are well versed in the use of statistical packages such as Epi Data, SPSS, STATA as well as qualitative data management software (NVIVO, MAXQDA).
The data management office assists research officers in designing data collection tools and report writing.  Additionally the data management unit supports training of research assistants to highlight data management issues/challenges that are pertinent to data collection.
